Role: Contracts and Legal Operations
Reports to: Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, People & Culture in Ventura, CA
Location: Ventura, CA

In the Contracts and Legal Operations role, you will be primarily responsible for providing operational support to the Patagonia Legal Department at its headquarters in Ventura, California and reporting to the Associate General Counsel, People & Culture. Key focus for this role will be to administer and improve upon department operations and systems including contract administration, electronic billing, budget and expense management, financial reporting, and management of administrative tasks of the General Counsel and other lawyers in the department. In this role you must also be comfortable innovating and providing recommendations on how to improve information sharing and efficiencies across the department, including finding creative ways to use operational strategies to support the company’s mission: We’re in Business to Save Our Home Planet.

A paralegal background isn’t a requirement but is a plus in that you will be tasked with managing our contracts intake system and drafting high volume types of agreements such as NDAs, Service Agreements and Licenses, and assisting with litigation support as needed.
What You’ll Do
- Manage all technology systems currently in use by the Legal Department including electronic billing (Legal Tracker) and contracts management system (Contract Works). Manage matter intake portal for all business inquiries into the Legal Department which includes assignment to appropriate team member, tracking completion and managing business partner expectations, as well as drafting high volume agreements including NDAs, services agreements, independent contractor agreements and licenses.
- Develop and maintain cadence of updating standard form agreements and commonly used templates.
- Develop and manage document retention system and establish uniform and efficient modes of communication for the global Legal Department.
- Manage budget, billing and expenses and provide reporting to the Legal Department and the Finance team.
- Assist in litigation preparation as needed.
- Provide corporate secretary support such as setting the calendar for Board meetings and managing corporate governance documents.
- Project manage Benefit Corporation certification and reporting process.
- Assist in performing RFPs and benchmarking to evaluate legal spend. Conduct internal/external legal metric reporting to better evaluate team efficiency and service to our business partners.
- Manage department administrative tasks including expense reports, scheduling, MCLE and dues reporting.

Experience You Bring
- High degree of familiarity and experience with technology solutions to achieve operational excellence.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience as a legal operations professional with a law firm or global company.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects and conflicting demands.
- Licensed notary or willingness to obtain license.
