About the Role
As a technology company revolutionizing the logistics space, having a legal strategy and high judgment counsel is of the utmost importance. Veho’s business model touches on various legal areas at the federal, state, and international levels, including labor and employment, shipping and transportation, insurance, commercial agreements, and data privacy, to name a few. We are looking for an experienced, well-rounded legal professional who can help build the legal function and make Veho’s legal strategy a clear competitive edge. We need an owner, strategist and leader who is equally comfortable setting a vision as well as executing.
What you'll work on
- Be a Trusted Partner -Above all, your core responsibility is to be a respected and responsible advisor to the business, from the smallest issues to bet-the-company decisions.
- Protect the Organization - You will be responsible for ensuring that we have strong, thoughtful protections for Veho’s proprietary information and assets. In addition to ensuring day-to-day legal work and output is fully vetted, you will be relied on to peer around corners to anticipate and proactively solve for risks and obstacles coming down the road. This includes anticipating and preparing for litigation, as well as building collaborative relationships with key regulators and related stakeholders.
- Commercial Agreement Strategy - You will work with our business team and Chief Commercial Officer to understand our objectives when signing new clients, and help draft, shape, and negotiate Veho’s commercial agreements so they are fully optimized to achieve our goals. You will be a key owner of our customer negotiation framework, streamlining our contracting processes and accelerating our growth, while effectively balancing risk management for the broader organization.
- Vendor Management - Work closely with our Information Security team to manage vendor relationships including e-billing, contract management, e-discovery, document and litigation hold management, legal entity support, and more.
- Data Privacy - You will work with our business engineering and information security teams to ensure Veho is protecting customer data and adhering to federal and state policy such as CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA. You will formulate our strategy to merge legal standards with cutting edge information security.
- Define Success- Develop and implement process maps and OKRs for all legal operations processes, and provide project management, process oversight and reporting to measure results.
- Expansion Strategy - You, in conjunction with your teammates, outside counsel, and the rest of the executive team, will build upon Veho’s current operations to grow and oversee a legal strategy to enable continued geographic and business line expansion. As the top legal executive, you will help Veho understand the applicable requirements to operate in these areas, help navigate gray and novel areas of law, and ensure that we are taking proactive steps to be compliant with relevant standards.
- Systems & Infrastructure - You will partner with the Information Security, Finance, Accounting, and other key stakeholders to streamline legal processes, protect the organization, and assist other teams in achieving their goals.
- Operational Excellence - You will be responsible for ensuring Veho is operating in compliance with all relevant laws.
Your background
- You are self-directed and proactively identify problems and solutions.
- You have 10+ years of progressive legal experience. A mix of top tier law firm and in-house experience at a fast-growing startup or tech company preferred.
- Domain expertise in commercial contracts and data privacy. Experience within technology and transportation companies would be a bonus.
- You are a quick learner on legal issues outside of your core experience, and are able to think holistically about the downstream consequences of recommendations.
What success looks like
- Ensuring that the legal function is always two steps ahead, and is never the bottleneck for growth and physical expansion.
- Designing and executing a clear, achievable strategy for expanding and stably operating the business across the US.
- A highly efficient B2B contracting process in partnership with the commercial team that allows for seamless new business development while ensuring Veho’s evolving business needs are met.
- Clear company processes, policies, and procedures that mitigate the risk in which we are exposed.
- Being seen as a trusted resource that enables growth and solves problems while protecting the business.
The starting salary for this role is $210,000. The actual salary is dependent upon many factors, such as education, experience, and skills. The pay range is subject to the discretion of the Company.
