The Contract Negotiation Team Manager for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) will work within the Legal Department. Primary responsibilities will involve managing a team to assist the attorneys across the Legal Department with the review, analysis and negotiation of certain contracts.
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $86,000 and $130,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
The SMBC Legal Department is seeking to establish a Contract Negotiation Team, which will be responsible for assisting attorneys across the Legal Department with the review, analysis and negotiation of non-disclosure agreements, access letters and non-reliance letters. It is expected that the mandate of the Contract Negotiation Team will expand over time to include other types of contracts.
The Manager of the Contract Negotiation Team will be expected to take a leading role in establishing the Contract Negotiation Team, including (i) reviewing, analyzing and negotiating non-disclosure agreements, access letters and non-reliance letters, (ii) recruiting, training and managing team members to conduct such review, analysis and negotiation, (iii) developing and implementing procedures to improve the review and negotiation process, (iv) interfacing with key stakeholders across the organization to escalate and resolve issues that arise in the context of contract negotiation.
2 years minimum experience as an attorney with law firms or financial services companies supporting legal teams and documentation. Strong understanding of, and familiarity with, non-disclosure agreements, non-reliance letters and access letters is essential. Ability to work independently and manage a high volume of transactions with competing deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, technical drafting skills, and attention to detail. Experience managing a team. Ability to work under pressure, operate comfortably in a fast-paced, demanding environment, and manage a significant workload with minimal supervision. Ability to think creatively and propose solutions. Unquestionable ethical and professional judgment as well as the ability to work with confidential documents and information. Highly motivated and adaptable.
