Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Legal Department (Toyota Legal One or TL1) is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Legal Operations & Compliance Manager.
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that TL1’s regulatory reports are submitted timely and accurate. It requires meticulous attention to detail and a person with solid judgment.
Reporting to the Director of Legal Operations and Litigation Support, the person in this role will support the TL1 department's objective to provide best-in-class legal service and advice, and counsel to the enterprise.
What you’ll be doing
- Review of product liability lawsuit allegations and legal claims received each month to assess defect allegations and ensure accurate and complete data entry and proper coding.
- Responsibility and management of TL1 data to ensure proper reporting for various internal and external stakeholders. Such reports include, for example, matter management system user lists, open lawsuits, closed lawsuits, lawsuit reserve analysis and preparation of SOX-required reports.
- Matter management system administrator – maintain user account access requests, configuration changes, training, and upgrade assessments.
- Audit responsibilities – meet with internal and external auditors as required to review TL1 SOX controls and provide evidence of compliance.
- NHTSA & Medicare reporting – prepare monthly audit reports to verify accurate and complete data entry. Prepare and submit quarterly reports. Work with Quality groups to respond to NHTSA investigation requests. Conduct annual training for product liability and claims staff.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Organized, strong attention to detail and follow-through, and able to work independently.
- Ability to troubleshoot and raise issues with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage and adapt to a busy, high-volume portfolio of claims and litigation, including time-sensitive and high-priority matters.
- Strong sense of inclusion and teamwork, with demonstrated ability to support and collaborate with colleagues and business partners.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support teams.
- Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communications skills.
Added bonus if you have
- Legal operations experience and familiarity with legal matter management, document management, and reporting systems.
- Familiarity with NHTSA reporting requirements & responsibilities.
- Legal background (law firm or corporate).
- Product liability experience.
- Demonstrated project management skills.
