I was really hoping that this would be fixed after all of the feedback IC received about the recent major update with the unified dashboard, but it hasn't. I haven't seen it on the roadmap either. So, I'm suggesting it here.
Basically, most of my users consider the document viewer to be nearly unusable in most cases. They just download the PDF and view documents that way instead. The main reason is the amount of wasted space on the document viewer page pigeonholes the document itself into a tiny window that takes up less than half of the actual available screen space (see attached screenshot, the green box is the space available to view the document). This doesn't make sense because the point of a document viewer is to view documents.
Here are some suggestions for how this can be improved:
- Reduce the size of the drop shadows around the document window.
- Allow the Versions/Properties pane to be resized and/or hidden (or, preferably, allow users to choose to hide it by default for repository documents).
- Have a "full screen" button that expands the document window to cover the majority of the screen space.
I appreciate the attention to this issue as it is really impacting the usability of this application.
